For me, it’s always been about music: Presenting, Promoting, and Playing

Hi!

I’m Alex West

I’m a musician, manager, content creator, gig promoter, live event host, and radio presenter.

Thanks for being here! I hope you’re having a lovely day. This site includes everything you could ever want to know about me: the details of everything I’m up to, where to contact me, and photos of all of the bad haircuts I’ve had over the years.

Radio

I currently work regularly as a reporter for BBC Introducing in Oxfordshire and Berkshire. My presenting journey has also taken me from student radio, to covering shows as a freelancer on the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6Music, and Absolute Radio, and recording paper reviews for BBC Radio 5 Live. I presented the BBC Introducing show in Berkshire for 2 and a half years, and the Kent Top 40 for commercial station KMFM in Kent for 3 years, reaching record breaking figures for the timeslot, and in the process overtaking The Official Chart and Big Top 40 in Kent.

I also have a monthly show on Reprezent in Brixton where I select my favourite alternative music from all around the world. Check it out here.

YouTube

I have a YouTube channel where I upload occasional videos including music news updates and analysis, plus interviews and deep dives into different artists. I’m just starting out but I’d love for you to come and follow my journey there!

Consultancy

I’m tired of seeing great music not reach the audiences it deserves, so I’ve also started working with musicians through Turntable Media, a Berkshire-based creative collective and studio, based in Wokingham, just outside of London. We work with artists on everything from songwriting and production, to content creation and music videos. My main specialisation is consultancy, where I can help guide artists through their next steps, with discounts available to musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds. Music

I am also available to collaborate with musically, or to play live in musical projects. My journey into music started with the classical guitar aged ten. Whilst I have also dabbled in keys previously, I’m currently focussed on diving into the vast world of jazz theory with guitar, and I’m loving every minute.

Berkshire

Home is truly where the heart is for me, and it was the biggest privilege of my life to host the BBC Introducing show for Berkshire for a couple of years from 2021-2023. If you’re nostalgic for that bygone era, here’s some clips from that show.

I also have a “Best of Berkshire” Spotify playlist which I update every now and then with new tunes from where I live. I’m so proud to be from an area where there is incredibly special, diverse talent across all genres.

Resources

I strongly believe that talent is equally spread, but opportunities are not, and this is something that I want to tackle throughout my career.

I put on a networking event for BBC Introducing LIVE week with four in person masterclasses on lots of areas of music, which our collaborators at Readipop Charity recorded for you to check out for free:

Recently we’ve started using the Turntable Instagram and Tiktok to share music tips!

Live music is the lifeblood of where I grew up. I promote a number of live music events, and I’ve just launched my new brand, Closer To Home:
“Because you shouldn’t have to go to London for great live music!”

Get In Touch

If you want your music to be considered for review on Tiktok/YouTube, or for play on Reprezent, send it to the address:

music[at] and then the domain of this website

For business enquiries and collaborations, my email is alex[at] and then the domain of this website. Don’t send me music or artist related requests to this address - I won’t see it.

In general you can find me under @agwestie on most social media platforms. I have a Tiktok where I post snippets from YouTube, including track reviews, and I use Instagram for the big updates. My Facebook page is inactive, and my Twitter is well and truly dead post-X.

The full story

With the way my brain works, I’m never certain of much - except two things: I love music, and I see the world as being deeply unfair. These two parts of me guide everything that I do.

If you’d like to read more about my journey from student radio to working in music full time, and being diagnosed later in life as autistic and having ADHD, I’ve written a little bit about it for you.
